I don't think it was boost related....
since I put in the tank I fabbed up I have been picking up shavings from it. the background:
pump #1 this was the pump I put on in 2001 when I got the car as the pump on it was shot. put 40k on the pump until abot a month after I put in the tank and it died...was full of shavings from when I cut the filler neck. cleaned it out and ran for about 1 mile (IE enough to make it a pain to walk somewhere) replaced it with a new pump and was fine until....(mid june)
pump #2 ran low on gas and killed the pump after 30 days. installed filter before pump at this time to catch and trash getting to it. (this was late july)
pump #3 went out today...low on gas and found filter PACKED full off shavings from hole saw STILL!! figured I would bypass filter (after putting 4 gals in tank by foot) and get it to the parts store across town to replace it. started it up and 15 secs later killed the pump...
seems to only give problems when I get low on gas as it picks up all the trash then as it slooshes around. I had sealed the tank after welding it up but drilled/cut the filler neck hole with a hole saw after sealer cured. Looking at a couple of the following now
1. replace pre-filter and blow air back through line to remove any blockage.
2. drop a couple cow magnets in the tank to hopefully trap any trash in there. I have a removable lid for the pickup and sender (bolts on) that I can fit my arm in to retrieve the magnets in 6 weeks when I get home to hopefully pick up any trash on them.
3. run a bigger prefilter?
god this sucks. at least I have a thread in nipple for the boost reference so all I have to do is run a tap in the existing hole to mod it. one thing is for sure I think I need to start keeping it full from now on!!
edit: once I get home from work I will cut open the filter and post some nasty pics of all the junk in it
