Leaf spring length

Think OLD truck. 4WD. Front leaf springs. Does the length of the leaf spring affect the ride? I've noticed some of the old 4wd's have short front leafs and some have fronts leafs as long as the rear. Seems like the short springs would make a harsh ride even harsher.

yeah the shorter the spring the harsher due to less leverage from the spring to control the movement.
basicly the long the spring the better it will be but not sure for drags
