Hello all,
New to the forum and on the hunt for some answers regarding header application. I have a 1963 Falcon Ranchero with a 200 straight 6 from a '65 Mustang. Does anyone know if the Hooker long tube headers (part number 6601HKR) will work in this application.

I can't answer that, but do you know about the sub $200 stainless dual outlet eBay header?

You might try pinging wsa111. He could measure how far the header sticks out from the block so you can check for side clearance. Otherwise, I would expect them to fit.

I understand you'll hafta go used as (6602) hooker's not producing that model right now…
nice deals (as Rich sez) on the shorties tho (low price, fine quality, sim model offered by CI).

Thanks everyone for the input. Yes, I looked at the Speed Daddy headers on Ebay (I think it was Amazon actually, they were listed at $175.00), they sure look nice and I know they'd work, I was just in the mood for some long primary tubes (I like making things difficult I suppose). Summit Racing indicates that the Hookers will work on a Falcon '65 and up, does anyone know the difference between the early round body and the later square body Falcon? I'm making the assumption that shock towers may present an installation issue.

I have close to an answer. I use Hooker 6601 'long tube' headers on a 63 4dr wagon with a 71 C8DE 170 . The 63 is a long time driver with original 3.50:1 rear gear swith Overdrive T5 5 spd. The Hookers' do hang LOW and depending on your suspension that may be a consideration.

I did have some minor interference with center steering link needing some attention. Not the shock tower in the 63, but 61/ 250 with 6602's had interference with shock tower, oil pan, center link, starter, etc...

haev fun

Hooker 6602's for low starter 250 and 6601's for high starter 170/200 compared:

I see no reason why the Hooker 6601 headers won't fit a (170 or 200) in your 1963 Ranchero. The Falcon / Comet engine compartments and shock tower position are pertty much exactly the same from 1960 to 1966. Those Hooker headers are great and should fit nice, Good luck

My goodness, those are some low hanging headers! Tenderizing the tubes to clear the steering linkage doesn't seem like such a bad thing, but I know the '63 has a pretty substantial suspension drop (still haven't done much investigating yet), I'm wondering if I'll be dragging that header down the highway... powerband, just how far down do they sit on your '63, bottom of body to bottom of header?

Just as another data point, here is another Pacemaker set that has been installed on a US Mustang.

If memory serves me correctly, this is the beasty that they installed. It's not quite the Hooker or the Pacemaker 4400, but not a "shorty" either.

Hookers are still available if you're looking for the setup for the 144-200. This would be the 6601 header and they're still available at Jegs and on eBay. It's the 6602 for the 250 that you're not going to be able to source new.
