Well I have M90 from a supercoupe now along with an intercooler. So I have been trying to figure out how and where it should be positioned. I know +68mustang+ said he placed his where the powersteering pump went. Well I do not have power steering so I am unsure of where this position is. Any ideas and photos will be greatly appreciated.

I'm mounting my M90 were the ps pump would go. How much hood clearance do you have if you ran it above the ps pump? Do you have room to run it side ways? I'm planning on mounting my M90 off of a ps pump bracket and off the coil holes drilled in the block. You could also have a bracket come of the thermostat housing. Do you know what kind of pulley system you are running? I still havent figrued one out yet. Good luck with your setup.

Curtis

for the pulleys, I will run twin vbelts. I am going to have a custom pulley for the blower made. Can you point me in the direction of where the power steering pump is/goes at so I can see if that area will work for me?

Dstud2000,

Flip it 90 degrees from the position that you have it in. It's tight but it will fit between the engine and the fenderwell. I did have to use my 5 pound persuader in a couple of places.

You want the top hat toward the fender well and pointed toward the front of the car. It's almost a straight shot from there to underneath the gravel shield. Thats where i have my intercooler. My intercooler has the outlet and inlet on the same side. I piped in to the cooler from my top hat on the bottom and out of the intercooler on the top. I came out of the intercooler thru the radiator support just to the drivers side of the radiator. I used a fairly flexable silicon tube from Thermaflex and secured it on my monte carlo bar to keep it off the charger and away from the pulleys. From there I just used a 3" 90 degree pipe straight into the carb hat. Remember to use some kind of grommet material around the hole you cut into the radiator support to protect your tubing.

I had to ditch the gravel shield, there wasn't enough room for it and the intercooler. Another option that I considered was losing the top hat and fabing my own that pointed it straight out toward the fender well. You could pass thur it and come back into the engine compartment behind the wheel and run your intercooler in the wheel well. It would be more of a stock look. You can see mine behind the grill. I may paint it black so that it will blend better and be less noticable. I decided to keep the hat though when my machine shop removed part of the 8 in 3.8 so that it looked like 3.3. They polished the intercooler and hat and then powdercoated the 3.3 in blue to match the engine. It's not as visible turned on the side but you can still see it and I thought it looked pretty cool.

I had the pulley fabed from 6061 T6 aluminum alloy round stock. I took the measurements from the pulley that came on the charger. I also took measurements from my crank pully. I had two unused pulley's so I took the measurement from them for spacing the vee's. I don't know what it would cost to have that made, again I'm lucky that the buisness I work for has it's own machine shop so they did it for me for nothing. That and the brackets to mount. I had two points on the front of the engine and I also used the two holes that the coil originally mounted to. I relocated the coil to the shock tower.

It will take alot of sweat, some blood from busted knuckles but if you are persistent you will achieve your goal. Don't give up every time you run into a problem you will find a solution.

You don't have to worry about me giving up, I'm stubborn as a bull. Thank you for all the advice I should be able to figure it out from there hopefully, if not I know who to send a pm to  . As for the mounts, I am a welder/fabricator and I am currently going to school for welding engineering, so I should be able to figure the mounts out no problem. As for the pulley I should have that covered, my dad's factory has a machine shop and they have been known for doing me a few favors  .

Damn! I was just thinking about doing the same thing! :D

So is this the position you are talking about? Obviously it will be farther down. I don't see how it will clear the dizzy and the oil filter.

I too am baffled about the darn clearances.. :? Especially with the ditributor as I´m planning on getting the new dizzy which is a bit taller than stock i recall..(?) Looks a lot easier to fit it in the passenger´s side to me..

Bob's engine bay is slightly bigger. That's why he could get away with it.

Imagine mounting it off the crank like an old Bugatti!

what kind of car is that in? i want to supercharge my early falcon, and am looking at mounting it in a similar place

I thought the 67' and 68' mustangs had the same size engine bays?

I was thinking you had a '66. What's a '67 measure between frame rails, to the nearest 1/16"?

Oh yeah.. I have the smaller bay because it´s a -65 mustang.. passenger side only possibility. Will the exhaust heat be a problem?

It should be identical to the 68, but I will measure it tonight when I get home from class.

stud,

Do you have it pulled forward so the the pulley lines up with the crank?

My top wasnt that far back. I did have to take the hammer to the shock tower a little just for the back of the hat to fit.

Bob

Ok, now I think I understand your use of the hammer :smash: so maybe I might cut that section out of the shock tower to make it fit instead of the almighty hammer  . When will you have pics up?

All,

My son has all the pics on his laptop. He is building a how-to web page with pics taken duing the process. He's in college, St Mary's, living in the dorms and I get to see him when his money runs low or he has worn all of his clothes at least twice. He's holding a 4.0 grade average so I'm not pushing him too hard on anything.

I'm leaving my car naturally aspirated for now. It still has some kick in it. I've been posting that I had a 264/274 cam, my bad, it's a 268/274 112 lobe seperation. I like it a lot. It lopes at idle and puts you back in the seat a WOT.

The charger is a pain to mount, even after you have everything fab'ed up. It's a tight fit and the belts are difficult to align. I think if I do mount it again I'll change to a mount over the distributor. I didn't do that first because I wouldn't have had room for my monte carlo bar. Also I think you would need to go to a cowl induction hood for clearance. I have a fiberglass cowl hood from Mustang Depot but I haven't installed it yet. I just had the car painted and I'm not in a hurry to spend some more cash to get the hood painted to match.

However with all of that said, the resulting horsepower is definetely worth the effort. I'm just tired of working on it right now, so I just want to enjoy driving it and showing it at local car meets. I have the 67 now that I'm building for the strip. I'm building a 250 bottom end for it. Mikes aluminum head and turbo set-up. I have a C-6 that's going to the tranny shop for a complete go thru and a shift kit and manual valve body.

I'll still post up the site of the original build thought for ideas for others trying to do the same thing. But I encourage you all to expand on what I've done to make things better. The more that do this the more we'll learn. The V-8 crowd will be trying to get their car's into the mags in the not to distant future.

Bob
