i thought i have heard of somebody here doing this, but can't find it via search. in my searching i can't find/afford an aussie head. so i want to compare the home made 3x1 intake (thanks patrick66) to this.

hi do you mean side draught or down draught ?

if its side draught-heres a link to an australian pre crossflow with the log machined off and a plate welded on to take an australian made triple SU sidedraught carb manifold - looks similiar to the 2v head now -but its alog head

here is alink to a log head with spigots welded on to take 2 x SU side draughts ( and an extra 2 to take 4 x honda motorcycle carbs)

and open 'horsin around with mustang six 'parts 1 and 2

if its tripple down draughts you are after then use the search function here - been discussed many times

no, not the down drafts. side draft. like i said, i'm comparing the 3x1 intake to triple sidedraft.

i say do it! ive thought about it a couple times, but 1 bbl side drafts were hard to find. so were parts. and since the car will be my daily driver, i didnt want 3 2v because i was concerned about fuel economy. now that ive learned more about webers, i know that a lot have removeable venturis and are very tunable for almost any application. im sure you could get close to the same mpg with 3 side draft 2v as you would with 3 1v's (if you can come up with some progressive linkage). you could also look at side draft throttle bodies, weber makes some that look just like theyre carbs. good luck.

not a 200, but this should give you an idea of what it will look like.

Thanks to Ken, what you're looking at is intake port #1. Don't confuse the core plug for the log size. Most know I'm not in favor of sawing off the log wholesale.

In the picture you'll notice the port comes in on a fairly steep up angle. I believe that side draft fights this natural shape and puts the carb bowls too close to the headers. It would be fine in an open altered but not in an enclosed engine compartment.

I say go down draft. I'm pretty sure the fast Argentinian guys and Frenchtown Flyer use down draft even though Frenchtown's 300 port is fairly flat.

very good point, but i think the reason he wants to do it is for aesthetics, not high performance. the heat problem is a tricky one, but he could put a sheet of aluminum between the intake and header. maybe that would work. i have a picture of a jag. with an inline 6 that has side draft webers and a heat shield. its in my weber book, so ill take a pic with my camera and put it up.
