Missing oil slinger?

Don't recall pulling off an oil slinger, in fact I am pretty sure I didn't have one. I have read some mixed opinions about the necessity of one through the forum and also how hard they are to find. Do I need it? and if so----where can I get it?

My chilton's doesn't even show one coming off or going on but my shop manual says it is suppose to be there...

You don't "need" it, but it does help keep excess oil off the crank seal. As long as the seal is good, no problem.

I usually leave it out on purpose.
