msd-5 with a duraspark

A friend of mine gave me a MSD-5 a while back and I was considering putting it in my Falcon with a dura spark set up. I was wondering if this is compatable and if someone has a schematic to install. the MSD site does not give me a clear diagram to do this.

I've got a 6A and I don't know how the wiring compares to your 5 but if you download the 6A instructions, look on page 18. It describes the Duraspark II connection. I bought that harness they describe (part #8869) and it plugged right on to the plug coming out of the DSII.

I see your setup in the picture but I cant make out if this is a duraspark distributor or if you have a point dizzy. msd gives a schematic for point dizzy, but not for a duraspark.

I'm not sure which picture you were looking at but if it's from my website, it's a little out of date. Here's a couple more recent shots:

Did you download the PDF of installation for the 6-series? Here's the link:

Page 18 shows how I hooked it up to the DSII. The bundle of wires coming out of the left of the MSD unit go around the coil and that's where I connected the adaptor that plugs into the dizzy. The bundle of wires coming out of the right of the MSD unit and go underneath it are the black/red wires that hook to the coil. The bundle coming out of the right going up goes to the ignition (there were two wires in it but one was not used) and the thick red wire goes to the battery. There's also a black wire hidden by the red that goes to the ground terminal on the engine block.

Hope that helps. If not, tell me what wires come out of your MSD 5.
