any guys that run msd ignitions:
could you tell a difference after installing it?
was your idle smoother?
what about any of the other stuff they claim? could you tell a difference in power or any of that stuff?

All I know is I just fried my MSD and had to swap in a stock DSII controller temporarily and :( it's not even CLOSE to what the MSD was. It idles like crap, accelerates like crap, burns like crap. THe motor was tuned to the MSD, so granted, I had to wond things back a bit (timing, plug gaps, etc), but still no contest...IMHO

63DropTop,
What was the cause of the demise of your MSD?
Operator error or funky function on the part of the ignition system itself?
Thanks.

moisture :( I think I soaked it while detailing under the hood and then maybe tried to fire her up too soon while it was still wet inside.

I went with MSD Digital 6+ only because I liked the look of the box better then the other ones. That at I have other plans for my ignition and the Digital 6+ makes those options easier.

I haven't compared it to the GM Module, but I have run it compared to:

1) Plain stock points ignition (no MSD)
2) Pertronix with Flamethrower coil (no MSD)
3) Pertronix w/ flamethrower and MSD
4) DS2 w/ flamethrower and MSD

The last 2 were by far my best idle and acceleration quality. I also gained about 2 MPG on the highway going from 24-25 to 26-27. That's over the course of an entire summer of observation because I keep detailed records of all my stuff.

I installed an MSD-6 and MSD coil in my car and it never ran better.

Given the chance, I would do the mod again, sooner this time than before.

Cheers,

Yeah, I love my MSD. I keep goin thru Accel coils tho, cant keep the things from dyin on me. Im gonna try an MSD next, and if I had thought about it sooner, I woulda gone with one last time I swapped coils.
Matt

how do you know when your coil is bad or not performing to par? I've got an MSD Blaster2 coil in mine since day 1.

When the car quits runnin, lol. It started out that the car would stall on me sometimes and wouldnt start back up. It cranked, just never got any spark. Then after a few minutes it would fire up and go for a week without doin it again. Finally heppened again and never started up so we went thru the electrical system and came to the coil. Thing is, seems like it was getting heat soaked or somethin. We are gonna move it to the fender wall soon, see if that helps.
Matt

Thats my plan...MSD Blaster prolly, its the first coil to give me problems. We shall see how it goes, but were still puttin it on the fender to get away form the heat, even if its just a precaution.
Matt

I mounted mine to the inner fender as well. My MSD is below where the washer bag would be and the coil is on the spring coil cover there too.

i need to legnthen a wire and then I am moving my coil over. just like the look of a clutter free engine

Sorry for the newbish question, but im here to learn right? hehe... but umm what is a rev limiter? and is it really worth the extra cash to get one when purchasing msd?

a rev limiter is pretty much self explanitory (dont take that wrong) it just limits your rpms to what you have it set to, many people go with it with manuals so if they miss a gear, and such, I dont know if its worth it you would have to ask others.

Kinda thought so...........so it would probably mean that going with a msd 6a would be my best bet since im on a c-4 automatic.....

i think an MSD is worth it no matter what you have....

i should take my own advice....
