Hi Guys, I`m new to this forum and retoring a 57 fire engine with a 223 line six engine in the Netherlands.
I hope someone can help me out here, got a rocker arm oil problem.
After taking of the cyl heads I removed the oil inlet tube, placed everything back and now there is no oil comming out of the inlet tube.
I do have 45 psi oil pressure at Idle.
I suspect a rubber seal at the bottom of that tube went bust.

Can anyone tell me if this seal is connected to the oil pump???
Can I get to it wen removing the oil pan/pump, or do i have to take out the engine?
Where can I get a new seal? I have all the part nr`s.
Hope someone can Help, everything is much appreciated!!!

Daan:

welcome to fordsix vintage area...

two things about your inlet/supply tube troubles.

first, and this is going to sound silly, but it happens... did you blow out the inlet tube with air? something might have lodged in there when taking it apart or some kreppy krawly thing might have gotten in there when it was sitting.

second, i am not 100% sure, but i think you can see the hole in the block casting where the supply tube fits if you remove the side cover. i havent had mine off yet, still collecting pieces and waiting for my machinist to get some free time to hot tank, mag, and shave the head, etc...

hope this helps some, cause its real odd that you dont have supply oil comming up the tube at the back of the engine with good pressure like that. if the tube you are refering to is in the front of the head, that is the return tube for excess oil after it lubes the rocker assembly, and wouldnt pump oil up at all.

I don't think that Kanter has the correct seal for the tube. I tried three years ago to find one for my '53 and no one had the correct part. It should be (at least for my car) a square cut o-ring. I found two solutions, 1- put two regular oil proof o-rings, or 2- cut down an air conditioning o-ring to fit. I used two regular o-rings. On my motor the supply line just pulls out of the block after the top is unbolted from the rocker shaft.
You may find that disassembling the rocker shaft and cleaning out the oil passages solves your problem. These engines are notorious for clogging the oil passages to the head. Good luck.

remove the tappit cover & you can see wher the line goes in to the oil galley the line may not be in hole or the seal push down I taped this hole 1/8 pipe put a 1/4 comprasion fiting in also taped the rocker arm stand with 90 degre fiting The clip broke on my 232 & i lost the the shaft it didnot happen agan

Thanks for all the help guys, finally got the tube out, took a lot off force.
Still no oil comming out of the oil inlet hole, so I suspect the oil passages are clogged. Need to find a way to kleen everything out properly now.
Keep you posted on the progress.

Are you Amsterdam Dutch, or Rotterdam Dutch, or Potsdam Dutch, or some other damn Dutch? (Sorry Dann, that's from a VERY old song here, and I couldn't resist!!)

Daan,

There was an aftermaket kit an external oil line that was made to fix this problem somewhere I have a couple new ones with all my other 223 parts. Because the older oils many were the non detergent type or had little compared to the new oils, so the sludge would buildup and also the lack timely oil changes. Don’t know if you can find it over there but the Justice Brother’s (company) makes an oil flush that is excellent and will remove all the built-up sludge within two or three oil changes. Bob
