New (Old) Head

I picked up a new, to me, head today at the pull-a-part. The head is a EOBE-6890-BB series. Can anyone help me identify this head? The 80 Mustang it came out of had a pretty fresh 200 attached to it. So if anyone in the Buford Ga area needs a good looking 200 high starter short block, pull-a-parts has one.

That would be a 1980 designed head casting so may be the original for that Mustang. It's also the desirable large log style head, so you made a good score

Sad but true, it only cost me 1 hour of labor and $39.87. The engine looked like it had very few miles on it. Now my 3-2bbls set-up has a new home.
The way the top of the manifold was cast it looks a lot flatter than the D7 head I was going to use. My low buck build is looking better and better!
Is the EO head the 1420cc head referenced in the Ford I-6 Performance Handbook?

It very well might be (50 / 50 chance) they say the 1980 up for the largest. But the 1977 to 80 was also the next largest log. If you can find the date code from the head it may help to find out for sure. My best guess is that if it's an early 1980 than no but if it's a later production it probably is. Any way you slice it that was a very good buy and good head to use I would sure pick one up if I found one.

If I'm reading the Performance Handbook correctly, the E would be cast in the 80's and 0 would be the year of the decade. 1980.
Either way, the intake manifold looks larger then the D7 I have.

You are correct the E is for decade of 1980 and 0 is the year (1980) the other letters (BE) for which Ford car line that part was designed for and the numbers (6890) will ID the part as a head casting BB tells you the original part has had design changes. For the rest of the identification story there is also a casting date code that will tell you the exact day that that part was cast in the foundry. It is smaller in size and looks like a little tag it will have a letter and 3 or 4 numbers. With the (BB ending letters) you could be correct that its the largest log head design.

I just looked at the at the head and the last 4 digits are 0D30.

That decodes as April 30th 1980 that would also be considered a late (1980) production part

Good buy on the head, I would buy any of those I could find. Picnpul has been very good to me especially on half price day.

0F18 E0BE 6090 BB, stock on my 1981 Mustang

Off course, unless its manual, the kickdown rod mount covers the date and part of the cast number.
