Tonight while cruising home the engine layed over. There is a new ticking noise comming from the what appears, the top, front of the engine, under the rocker cover. Right now, I don't have time to pull the cover. Do you have any ideas?
Thanks,
Ken

Pull the cover. =) Not worth breaking something. Drive a different car until you have time to pull it, then run the engine with the cover off and see if you can find the noise! Do you have adjustable rockers?

Hey 65Stang200,
I don't think the 76 250's had adjustable rockers. I'll take it apart next weekend.
Thanks,
Ken

I don't know if they did or not. =) If you do, though, might be easy to adjust them. I would be cautious. =) Good luck!

Today was a great day. I pulled the rocker cover, remote started, (turned over), the engine and noticed nothing. So, I started the engine and watched/listened. Nothing major, just a little ticking. HMMMMM. I pulled the rocker assy and cleaned it. Now all 12 rockers rotate 360 degrees without any problem. Reassembled the components and restarted the engine. No problems and no ticking. Awhhh yes. But there is some wear to be delt with, the valve tips and rockers are shot. When I pull the head, I will get bigger valves, springs and roller rockers added. Well, that seems like a good time to open the intake to accept a 350cfm Holley 2bbl.

I'm sorry, I didn't add my conclusion for the problem, I think there was a hydraulic lifter that collapsed. Thus creating a cylinder not working.
