New to the I-6

Hey Gang, I'm new to the world of the ford inline six. I've been a hotodder since I was 15 (over 40 years), but entirely with V-8 engines. I recently purchased a 1977 Maverick with a 250 ci engine. It had been completely rebuilt with a mild cam added and a ceramic coated header. I believe a stall converter was also installed. The previous owner gave me the port divider that I need to install... one day. It has a very good sound and is quicker than I thought a six-banger could be. However, I don't believe it has enough carbureation. I know this has been discussed before, so could someone point me to the thread that covers this the best. I did a search and was not finding out everything I want to know. Thanks for the help. :thanks:

what exactly do you want to know?
what's the info you're looking for, do you just want to know how to do a direct mount carb, or do you want to know which one is the best carb to get, or something completely different?
lemme know and i'll see what i can dig up

with that 250 I would go with directly mounting a Holley 350 onto the log. do a user search using "wsa111" and "mustang_geezer", they're moderators here and they've posted pictures of their direct mount holleys.

Fair enough. I'm pretty sure I ned more air/fuel than being supplied by the stock 1 bbl carb. I've looked on Clifford Performance's web site and have given serious thought to using an adapter plate and a 2-bbl carb. I also recently purchased and have read "The Ford Falcon Six Cylinder." What I am not seeing is the linkage setups to make a Holley or an Autolite 2-bbl work with the adapter plate. I'll be the first to admit that this may be the best course of action. I am very open to good advice. I do have an extra complete engine and I plan to use the head off of it and do some work on it. At that time, I will make my carb conversion. As a note of additional information, I eventually plan to install and AOD with about a 3.70 gear in the differential.

Bottom line: I want to maximize the potential performance that is already built into the engine and optimize highway fuel mileage (hence, the AOD).

If that is a picture in your avatar, I'm going to call you Sir and do what you tell me. :D
