I have a 67 falcon (200ci, auto, completely stock) that has been used as my daily driver for the last three years. It decided to start running horribly this morning. The contacts in the distributor were pretty coated and/or worn, so I went to buy new points and a condenser, distributor cap, and rotor. before replacing this stuff, I disconnected the battery terminals to clean them and spray them with protectant. Once everything was installed and I went to crank the engine to set the gap on the breaker point, i heard a clicking noise and all power seemingly got cut off from the car. The gauge lights went out and it wouldn't crank. If I disconnect the battery and then connect it again, everything works fine until I try cranking the engine again. Figuring it might be the Starter relay (or solenoid, or whatever its called), I went and got a new one, which didn't resolve the problem. Its like there is a switch that is cutting off power for one reason or another. The same thing happens whether it is in neutral or in park. Any ideas? I need my car back!
