Oil around number 4 and 6 sparkplug

Just changed my plugs, and I noticed that there was some oil around the threads of plugs on #'s 4 and 6. The engine runs smoothly otherwise. Was this the result of not torquing down the plugs correctly? Any other reasons?

thanks,
MrM

It's probably seeped down from the valve cover. Nothing to really fret about.

Mr. M, does your engine use oil? If it does use oil, could be from valve guides or rings. Run a compression test, if that checks out & you don't use oil, don't worry about it.

However if your engine consumes oil & the compression checks ok, it still could be valve guides or the rings did not seat in that cylinder.

Advise need more history on your engine. Such as how much oil your engine is using, if no oil consumption I would not worry at all. William

it does use oil, actually. I had to put 2 quarts in last week, less than 3000k after the last oil change.

Mr. M, you need to address the problem. Send the head to a qualified machine shop & install new guides & proper valve guide seals. & then bore the block to eliminate your oil consumption problem.

This is the only way you will fix your engine, sorry to give you the bad news. William

you can do valve guide seals with the head still in the car....for about $100 at a shop or cheap at home with an air compressor...

Mr M, have a look in the forum in this same 144-250 area for "valve stem seals on the cheap" I put this post up on replacing your valve seals - step by step instructions there....give me a yell if you want to ask any questions about it but check that post out and ask there.....
