has any of you ever had that round disc that, that sits in the block, the oil filter screws to leak?is ther an o-ring that seals that?

The oil filter adaptor plate and fitting has a large round O shaped gasket behind it. The gasket is not normally a leaker and never replaced until such time as an engine rebuild occurs.
On the pre-1957 engines, there was no adaptor plate because there was no spin-on filter. They used a large cannister with a filter element. That exact same gasket came with the filter element and was replaced with each oil change.
The old oil filter elements are still available and include the gaskets. To replace the gasket, remove oil filter and unscrew the adaptor plate fitting with a large socket. Carefully pop-out the adaptor plate using a screwdriver. Be careful not to bend the adaptor plate. Dig out the old gasket and thoroughly clean the surface. Put a light film of bearing grease on the surface prior to installing the new gasket so it will "stick" in the bore while reinstalling the adaptor plate and fitting. Do not use the small round gasket that comes with the oil filter element. That one only works with the cannister type filter. You only need the large round gasket.

hey guys. i am still having problems with this damn thing leaking. i replaced the gasket.but it still leaked when it was cold, so i replaced the adapter plate and all and then it stopped for bout two days then i doubled up the gasker\t and it stopped, bnut now agin it's leaking and i foundone of the gaskets cujt so i took it out.now it leaks when its cold and stops afterbout two minutes. help please. is my only option to go get bulk gasket material and make one out of cork?

If you are using the stock type gasket that comes with any rebuild kit or a gasket that comes with a Purolator P-48 oil filter element, it should work. There is no need to double-up gaskets. One is plenty. The only thing I can think of is your adaptor plate is "crushed" and not placing enough compression on the gasket for a good seal. Suggest taking the adaptor plate off and comparing the depth with a known good part. Replace it if your plate shows signs of distortion when comparing it to the good part.
It may help to spread a small amount of permatex gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket so it will "stick" rather than using grease if you are having trouble holding the gasket in place. Make sure the gasket is not protruding from the bore when installing the adaptor plate. Tighten the fitting to the specified torque. Do not overtighten.
