oil out the back

Last night when I got the new engine towed over to the mustang, the guy helping me move it picked it up before I was ready and the engine tilted to the front (as in, the front of the engine was raised higher than the rear). All of a sudden, oil started pouring out the back. I quickly picked up the rear, and it stopped. Anyone have any idea where the oil came from, and if this is normal? It didn't leak oil when it was sitting level, only when it tilted that larger angle (probably around 35*-40*).

Thanks guys,

The oil pressure sender is in the back.

Cant remember if it the little or big inline that the flywheel bolts in the crank need to be sealed so if it doesnt have a flywheel or flexplate maybe thats where it came from? Or the rear main is shot?

Its pretty easy to bang up the oil pan and gasket with the motor out. Do you know the history of this motor? Maybe the pans are just thrown and not tight or with good gaskets?

Yea it's a brand new rebuilt engine, so it better not be the rear main. I didn't have the flexplate bolted on, so that could be it. The engine is up on a stand too, so I don't think it's the gasket or pan.

It came out of the holes in the crank for the flywheel to bolt onto it. =)
Which reminds us all to use teflon tape on the bolts that hold the flexplate onto the crankshaft or you won't be very happy when you fire it up and oil starts leaking out the back.

Haven't come across that problem yet. =)
