Oil pressure gauge installation

Hey, I have a few questions about installing an oil pressure gauge into a 250 2v.

Can I buy an off the shelf or any oil pressure gauge to install, or are there specific parameters I need out of the gauge?

Is it a simple installation that replaces the oil sender thing that is screwed into the block?

Thanks

I like the electric types - no oil to leak inside the car, easier to run a wire neatly than a pipe, easier to test. Probably about the same cost as the 'capillery' type. As long as the gauge and the sender are matched and the sender fits the motor it will work.

What's your intended application? Do you want a gauge because the car only has a light, or are you wanting to "accessorise" the car, or is it for the visual appeal?

Also, what car?

Cause it only has a light at the moment and would also be good to have when doing track days.

ITs a 71 XY Falcon

I'd suggest scraping up the dollars and fitting a repro GT dash. It's dear, but will add value compared to installing aftermarket gauges in a regular dash. You can probably get most of the gauges from Mustang suppliers as repros.

If that's too hard, then a GOOD aftermarket gauge (electrical or mechanical) might do the trick. Try to avoid butchery when installing it. You can fit a tee piece where the original sender screwed in - see hydraulics places like Pirtek or Enzed - to keep both the idiot light and your new gauge.
