Oil Pressure Gauge showing 0

Is anyone still reading these?

Oh well, I'll try anyway! :D

For those that don't remember me, I'm running a pre cross flow 250 in a boat. The engine hasn't been running for over 2 years! I charged up the battery and fired it up. ( Lot's of smoke.. but that's normal. )

The oil light goes out as soon as she starts, but no oil pressure showing. The Oil pressure has always been extremely good with this old motor.. so I'm hoping it's just a sender or something.

I have searched the web looking for a guide on how to fault find. They don't seem to make sense for my application.

Can anyone give a little guide on how to diagnose the sender and the gauge / wiring.

Many thanks!

Rob :thanks:

If it's an electrical gauge, if you touch the sender wire to ground, the gauge should peg on the high side. if it does, you have a bad or poorly grounded sender. If the gauge does not move, you have a bad gauge or no power to the gauge.

:hmmm: Hi Roath.IIRC.On the single wire senders, the unit grounds through the sender body.I was always told on these type senders DO NOT use thread sealer on the threads or you will insulate or partially insulate the sender and it won`t work or it won`t work properly.
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.
