All Small Six Oil pressure sender unit

This relates to all small sixes

Hey everyone,
I keep posting questions in my tread with introduction, but thought I might get more insight here.
So I have 64.5 mustang, originally with 170 engine, but someone prior to me swapped 200 from 1966. So while I’m rebuilding it (with work I don’t have much time and just putting couple hours here-there) and gathering all parts, sometimes I get a surprise on what previous owners did lol
So now I’m a bit stuck with my oil pressure sensing unit. Because the car is 64.5 I only have an oil light on the dash, and seems whoever installed the sensor, it wasn’t a correct one, even tho it worked.
I ordered the same sensor, but I can’t thread it all the way - it’s too big. Some other options for the sensors are for dash with gauge, as I understand. Maybe someone can help me and direct me to a right sensor, that will work with just the light on the dash.

In the attached picture on the left is the same sensor that I had, prior to removing it. I cleaned the threads inside the engine, but the new sensor just wouldn’t go far enough.
Now that I’m writing it, I understood that I didn’t measure correctly (measured the sensor threads outer diameter above the threads and the inlet diameter is measured past the threads), but it doesn’t change that I can’t screw it in and don’t want to force it too much.
I would appreciate any suggestions

Thanks, Tim

These threads are usually pipe threads which are tapered. Get a thread gage and measure the pitch of the threads of the old and new. If they are the same carefully run a pipe tap in the hole to clean it out. With todays parts the quality control is not what it used to be.

Take the parts to a hardware store and try them in pipe thread fittings and see how they fit.

Hi, how did you "clean" the threads? Ford cut 1/8" pipe threads, which are tapered, and if you did not use a 1/8 NPT tap, or turned the correct tap in to far, the sender will not seal. Let's see what you did, and figure out a solution. Good luck

I didn’t have NPT tap, so a cleaned it with metal picks as much as I could.
I’ll pick up npt tap for this then. Thank you!
Try ''falcon parts .com'' $14.95 says it is for oil pressure light for 6s and 8s 1960-1965.
Yes, looks the same as the one I have 👍

Thank you! I guess it is the right part, just need to clean the threads better

This is as much as it can go in. To thread more - I’ll need to put more force, which I’m a bit skeptical I should be putting to thread it in
