For the first time in 44 yrs of driving and servicing my own cars where I can, I succeeded in actually overhauling a carb and it worked. Over the past couple of weeks I have been working on three carbs for a 3 X 1 system. Might sound like I'm nuts, but I decided to start the process of checking the carbs for run ability before I actually do the conversion. I pulled my current 65 Autolite 1101 and replaced it with the 1963 carb that I rebuilt. I figured that it being the one I will use as my center carb, I've better check it out first. To my complete suprise, after correcting a couple of leaks, the car ran just fine. Actually better than the carb I had on it. Before going much beyond what I am doing now, I need some advice on the jets. At present, the outboart jets are 65F, and the Center is a 60. Will this work.

(Added on edit) "I goofed on stating the jet sizes, please check my follow up posting for the jet sizes I currently have!"

.....YOUR 1101 WILL RUN BEST ALROUND WITH 65'S THE 1100 IS GOOD AT 62'S AND 63'S. THIS IS ON A 170 OR 200. THE 250 MIGHT NEED MORE WORK.

Oops, I goofed on the jet sizes, the out boards are 56F and the one I will be using on the Center, the one I test ran as a single yesterday. is a 69. The engine is a '66 200 currently with stock cam, but hope to have that changed to a mild performance cam within the next couple of months. I want to make sure I don't starve the engine as the tri-carbs will be set up on progressive linkage. Thought I had read that the outboards could be smaller, but I can't find a posting to prove it. Should all the jets be the same?

Final jetting of the carbs needs to be done with something like a "Colortune" setup. This is a glass sparkplug that allows you to see the combustion flame colour. Matching colours indicates matching A/F ratios.

Mustang652, if I remember right I ran a 69 jet on the 1100 carb on my 67 mustang 200. Remember I just had 1 carb, so your outboard carbs should have the power valve enrichment removed & you will have to jet the outboard carbs as needed.

I would check with someone who has done the setup before & reap their experience. William

Thank you, that gives me a starting point and may well explain why my car seems to be so sluggish. Ran into a jamb on time and had a local shop replace the carb back in Oct. The temporarily put the carb I rebuilt to use as the center and it had a 60 and the car seemed to have better acceleration. I took apart the one replaced locally, and the jet is stamped with 48. It may be mismarked, as it looks a little smaller than the 69 I have on hand, but it doesn't look 21 sizes smaller. Will try the 69 tomorrow and see how it runs.
