Trying to squeeze some go out of a 65-66 6 cylinder coupe. Have an engine semi-planned (later 250, cam, compression, intake, 2 brl carb, headers, prolly 2 - 2.25 inch dual exhaust).

Other details... how much can the stock tranny and rear take? I figure they aren't the same C4s (and 3/4 speeds) and 8 inch rears that came with stock V8s, so they can't handle V8-esque power (which I am planning). If the rears aren't 8 inch, what are they, cause I would probably look to add a 3.23 - 3.55 ring and pinion at the least (did they come in posi at all?). I'm also assuming the same suspension mods that an 8 cylinder car would take, the 6 cylinder cars would take as well (add in the fact that the sixes are way lighter than the 8s and I would think these cars have some handling potential too).

8)

The C4 should be the same except it is not the more common '69 and later model. But many of the goodies like HD internal parts and shift kits will work as long as you get the one for you version.

As for the rear? I am not familiar with the 8" but have heard lots of good things.

I've beat the tar out of my C-4 and 7.25" (3:20 gears) rearend for almost 4 years now without a problem yet!

The tranny was rebuilt and I installed a B&M Transpack. You can find posi units for these rearends on ebay...Plan on spending around $450.00 for a NOS Ford one.

If posi is your thing, there are alot of ways to go towards achieving it. From you welding it solid, to buying a kit for it. Welding solid will wear your tires sooner cause it doesn't allow slippage on turns. I've heard some good about electronic traction additavies, but no personal experiences. I'm sure you could search for them if need have it. I'm sure there just as good. So good luck, if you have any other questions on rearend, just email me. Options are endless.

MustangGeezer, where is the best (easiest) place to find some 7.25" 3.20:1 gears. That's the gearing I would like. I am currently stuck with the stock 2.79 or 2.83 or something and I'd like a little more umph off the line.
