PCV

Just a quick question about my pcv valve, the other day i tried putting a new one on and at idle it dropped a couple hundred rpm's and was at like 450-500 making the generator light come on dimly, put old valve back on and idled back at 800 give or take. Anyone know why??

Thanks in advance, Lee

replacing PCV should not affect idle unless: 1) new PCV is at fault and-or not correct application/listing. , 2) old PCV defect masked other carb/vac problems.

if possible, try one more PCV new or preferably from working six car, or keep "old" one... . PCV's are one of those simple vacuum vs spring pressure enigma's ( like LOM's :? ) . anyone got simple working diagram? 8)

Doe the new one rattle when you shake it?
It should. Thinking maybe it's stuck.
Or it's working properly and the old one leaked.

yah, old and new rattles, it could be the wrong one/model. when i unplug it the old one whistles a little bit and the new one makes no noise at all and i dont think it opens...at least at idle anyway which may be why its idling lower with that one???just a thought. lemme know whatcha think.

I would use the new PCV and toss the old one sounds like it's worn out. Than reset your idle to the RPM you want it to be

How's your "blow by" if they old was faulty and the new one is working letting the base pressure into the intake causing the low idle... happens all the time with marine engines (although they don't have PCV, the hose is routed to the breather). Can't eat its own crap!

Shes a pretty tired six, seized once, and blows blue smoke pretty good when i get to 50 mph/2200+ rpm once the oil thins out, i think it may have burned a little less with the new pcv. Bellows out blue smoke when i do the rare WOT to 3500rpm. But one thing is it can boogey to 60mph in 13-14 seconds. anyway

You think i should stick with the new pcv??

Is it suppose to be closed at idle? cuz i think it is.(the new one)

What would happen is u just routed the pcv hole to atmoshpere?

Thanks for the tips! Lee

no good way to make it right. When I was 16 I drove my first 66 mustang with a 200 that had a hole in the piston. I just ran a hose down out away from the breather so the engine got fresh air.....used more oiil than gas, locked up acouple times and was still running when I pulled it. (well "running" but thats a bit of a strech).
You may be able to lean your idle mixture and raise the idle but it will run different everytime you start it and change again from hot to cold.
