They make DUI distributors but not for the 200-250. They make Duraspark distributor with external coil and module. This was the e-mail i recieved Our Duraspark distributors are custom tuned with a proper advance "curve for your application. We will use information such as cam duration and lift, compression ratio, carburetor size, vehicle weight and octane of fuel and tune the advance to your needs. Also, our coil kit and module are more reliable and produce a hotter spark than the MSD. Thank you."

Has anybody tried one??? are know anything about them??

Howdy Kyle:

No experience with DUI, but I've seen their ad and heard good things from the GM crowd. I'm curious how much they are charging for a recurve, a hotter coil and module. That would be a factor.

A recurve on a DSII can run anywhere from $40 to $75, a hot coil from around $50 and a stock module for another $40. If you have a well modified engine the recurve is of greatest value. Know that even a stock DSII system is far superior to the earlier points type ignition system.

I'm curious?

Adios, David

Isn't anything better than points? I have always thought that the only advantage to point type ignition is in cost. The worst thing about points is when you start the engine the points start to wear right then. the best advantage of Duraspark is that modules and pick up coils are available at almost any corner parts store. Even the big chain parts stores have complete rebilt dizzys in stock for duraspark if needed.

Hi,

I put a DUI in my other project car, a '68 Catalina convertible. It's a 428-4v. I would have to say the DUI was the best upgrade per dollar that I did :D . The HEI evened out the idle quality greatly. Got better gas milage and over all performance. 8) I have always hoped that DUI would make something for our small sixes. I even wondered if DUI could make a dizzy with an HEI top on a Ford bottom end. That just might be my next project after my engine rebuild; all I need is access to a lathe!!

I got this reply from them Dave on the cost.

We do not offer a DUI distributor for the Ford 200-250 inline 6 cylinder engines. However, we do offer a Duraspark distributor with external coil and module. The distributor is $249.00 and the module and coil kit are $145.00. Thank you. Performance Distributors

By the way this is for my 250 that i plan on doing a little bracket racing with. Trying to get the best ignition for my money

kyle,

it sounds like they are just selling you a DS2 dizzy, with a hotter coil and GM module. You can build that yourself for around $100, and then put the remaining $160 to an MSD 6A box.

A magneto would be good for a motor that spent serious time over 6000. Below that, it's overkill. A true recurve on a dizzy makes a world of difference.

BTW, I have been told (by an ignition specialist, no less) that the GM modules now are imported (even though branded Delco) and nowhere near the quality (reliability-wise) of the earlier ones. Carrying a spare is recommended.

Adam.
