Only one question, Now this might sound stupid to you so I hope you are sitting down, (Ready), How do you bypass the resistor.
I have looked at other conversions and this one sounds the cheapest and easiest as most junk yards around my area only have cars 85 and newer so this looks like what I am getting just gotta get the checkbook from the wife. With any luck she wont catch me!
I highly recommend the Pertronix. To bypass the resistor:
I can't tell you for sure on a Mustang, but the resistor is typically a pink wire under the dash. It is 60 inches in length.
Locate the end closest to the ignition switch. The other end goes through the firewall.
Splice the Pertronix in before the disconnect.
You need to do this to get full voltage to the module. Anywhere after the disconnect will be less. A wiring diagram will help you locate the proper disconnect.

I have a 65 Mustang and I did not have to worry about a ballast resistor. I just used the +12 Vdc lead that was already on the original coil. I have a Pertronix II and Flamethrower II coil and it works great. A few others have had issues with the Pertronix II and switched back to the Pertronix I. I later added an MSD6A and I'm still happy with the setup.
To check to see if you have the ballast resistor - I think - you simply measure the voltage at the coil. If you have +12 Vdc... no worry. If you have +6 Vdc... then you have the resistor in the system (somewhere) and need to bypass it.
Go to there web site and read about installing the lead to 12V lead, the original Mustang lead is 6V and with age it will leak power and get even lower, the Pertonics will work down to 5v (IIRC) but the output will suffer. Put a volt meter to your lead and confirm 12v or rewire a new lead to get the 12v. I rewired mine and works great, though I have to admit my son is still using the 6v lead and it is working for him too!
