I would like to upgrade my 65 170 ci engine with the Pertronix "ignitor", is this a direct fit and will it work with autolite 1100 or what carb would work best.If I decide to go with the Pertronix what do I ask the dealer for. Thanks

The Ignitor specified for the year your engine (not the car, the motor) is made will be the one to buy, so confirm the engine date. Be advised that many people have fitted then removed these units due to failure or malfunction.

An MSD unit may be triggered by breaker points, and offers a different way to upgrade ignition output. Depending on the year of your block, a Duraspark II distributor may also be readily fitted. Your decision will reflect whether you wish to keep the motor looking stock.

Regards, Adam.

I ran a pertronix for about 4 years in my car. I bought it used form a board member and even left the ignition on a million times running the batteyr down (the pertronix literature will tell you this is a no no) I even pulled it from my 62 loadamatic dizzy and put it in a dual advance dizzy with no problems and ran that for 6 months before swapping to a duraspark (this is on my daily driver/only car and never had any issues...well other than a dead alternator that wasn't changing and once the voltage got low enough the car just shuts off)

will the 1100 carb work, or what carb would work best with the pertronix ignitor.

It works fine with any carb. I have the 1100 and Pertronix II. It's great.
Some here think the PII is undependable and you might want to stick with the less expensive original Pertronix. I recommend a Flamethrower coil as well. Zoom!! Starts right up. Better milage. Love it.

i have to agree, the pertronix 1 is a terrific unit (beats the hell out of points). I've heard good things about duraspark but only from guys on this forum...all my local shops recommend i do pertronix installs. I've used them in a few different cars and all with greater results. the 1100 should work well too.

I've had the Ignitor I on my 170 for about 7 years now with no problems. Would a Flamethrower coil really make any difference if I'm still running a generator?

Thanks
