Finally got the Ignitor 2 electonic ignition put in yesterday. I couldn't believe the difference over the old points! Started right up with no hesitation and much more responsive on the road. Accelerates much quicker from a stop and just flies in second gear! I should be getting the flamethrower 2 coil next week to finish the system.

One question. The forum and the literature says I can run wider spark plug gaps for more gas mileage etc. Is that something I set in the spark plug chambers or just order new plugs with a wider gap width? If thats the case I would also be trying the extended tips recomended in the Falcon 6 book.

8) run your plug gap at .040", you dont need any more than that. also run the projected nose plugs indicated.

8) with a gapping tool. they are available from any parts store where you get the plugs.

You want to get a gauge that measures the gap with wires instead of with a flat strip of metal or a round, flat disc with a progressively thicker outer surface. The preferred one looks like this, although an automobile gauge will have more and thicker gauge wires:

The flat ones are not as accurate. As they fire, spark plugs develop a little concavity on the underside of the top member. A flat blade will bridge this concavity and measure the distance between the electrode and outside of the concavity only. The wire gauge will measure the actual distance between the electrode and the tang.

And when you widen the gap, DO NOT use a screwdriver or similar to twist the tang away from the electrode by pressing on the electrode. You want to use one of those slots on the tool. You slide it onto the tang and pull the tang away from the electrode by levering the tool against the outside edge of the spark plug threads.
