petronix distributor questions

when i got my car the previous owner had installed an electric distributor and i thought nothing of it but then today me and my moms boyfriend were working on my car and we got curious about wut kind of distibutor it was and once we saw it was a petronix we started looking for an ignition box and we couldnt find one and we were wondering if it was possible to run the distributor without an ignition box

That's the way it was designed to go. The box is an add-on for the PTX.

well in my mind anyway the PTX is a magnetic pick up directly replacing the mechanicial points. i would assume there is a little more to it but not a whole lot given the size of the unit, but i am kinda hoping mine fails so i can cut it open and check it out
as far as calling it electronic iggy i suppose but take it with a grain of salt, yes no contact or moving parts but i like you think of electronic IGGYs as a bit more like buzz boxes and such

thanks for the help guys we had no clue that the little box thingy inside the distributor was the whole ignition system
