Phenolic spacer

8) pretty good design there. you can help disapate even more heat if you also make a 1/4" thick spacer from wood and sandwich it between the carb and the phenolic spacer. and yes it really does work.

Why not just a 1/2" phenolic or marine plywood spacer?

I guess it would be rather expensive to buy a whole sheet of 1/2" plywood just to use a couple square inches of it.

I am getting close to bottom of the hood with the air cleaner and larger wingnut I have.
Maybe I will try 2 pieces of phenolic to get 1/2" down the road sometime :hmmm:

He's saying that you should use two dissimilar materials so they have a different coefficient of heat transfer. Two spacers of the same size is just one taller spacer. So try 1/8" material like marine plywood or Masonite.

Of course. But he already has one at 1/4". He is concerned about clearance if he goes 1/2" so, what the hey, split the difference. The best would be a solid phenolic or marine plywood spacer. All I'm saying is that I'll bet he can put his hand on some hi-po laminate or something similar for just a little more bump.

Just jam a corn cob down the big hole to keep it centered and then rattle a fat drill bit around in the mounting holes until you can pound it down over the bolts.
