I checked out the scuffing definition and I definitely had those types of particles in the first engine at tear down. I did not notice any particles in the second engine's oil.
As to the oil. First engine was Pennzoil, I assume 10w40 (that was 4 years ago). I used a blend of 30wt non det and STP for my assembly lube on all moving surfaces other than the cam. On the second engine I am not certain as to the brand of oil. I was changing over to Casterol brand (again I assume 10w40) around that time. I know I changed the oil and filter after about 25 miles (about 1 hr total run time) to flush out any debris that might have been gotten in during the reassy.
