Poor gas mileage with Pertronix

I finally got my PertronixI and Flamethrower coil installed in my 1969 Falcon with 200 ci . Car runs just fine but is getting worse gas mileage than it was getting just before the switch (which means with points etc. that had been for over 10000miles. Timing is set at 10 degrees btdc Any ideas?
 
increase spark plug gap to .045 - .050 and then check your timing

also check your vacuum advance....secondary one too.
 
Hey dread....

I did the same thing when I installed my pertronix...i fouled a set of plugs in 2 hours at the original gap. Over the weekend, I musta pulled my plugs a dozen or so times...each time opening the gap up further and further.

I am now set at .048 and that seems just right for me and the car starts and runs great. Now my only loss of MPG comes from running too heavy on the pedal !!!!!
 
WIth Pertronix and flamethrower, increase the gap to about .045-.050. I run .052 with my DS2, flamethrower, and MSD Digital 6+

I'm the same about .054 or slightly less with hot coil, MSD-6A and a pertronix 1. Nice tan color on the plugs.

Hey, thanks for all the advice. I did gap plugs to 40. This weekend I will pull them and change to 50 or so.
 
If you continue to experience poor mileage, check your voltage at the pertronix and coil. Then look at your carb.

I found that when I installed my pertronix 2 unit and flame thrower coil that I needed to re-tune my ignition (adjust the timing and plug gap). Once that was taken care of, I got great mileage and performance. Now that I am back to points for the time being, my mileage is terrible.
Pertronix 2 + 1 tank of gas = 6 to 9 days of driving.
Points + 1 tank of gas = 4 to 6 days of driving.

I think I might be running a little rich yet. What do ya' think? lol
