pre-crossflow motor bolt patterns (big bell - small bell)

I've just picked up a 221 motor which is meant to be out of an XT - can anyone verify what year the motor went to the larger bolt pattern??? as this one has the earlier bolt pattern - which is a pain as I was hoping to put an XF bellhousing and T5 behind it. I'll just just have to figure something else out - maybe an auto instead

Cheers

Larger bellhousing pattern started in XR late 1966, it continued till 1988 when the EA came out with starter on rhs.
All 221ci sixes (xt, xw 1968-1970) have bigger bellhousing which you should be able to bolt up the later XF stuff to.
If its small housing it isnt a 221ci.

Thanks for that, the engine number seems to be hiding somewhere other than the usual places. So I'm having problems identifying it.

The only cast marks are C8DE and 6015B on the exhaust side and 21 cast on the dizzy side. Does anyone know what capacity this motor is???

thanks

OK I'll try again as I've just been outside again to compare the bolt pattern between this one and a 144 I have - it seems to have the same bolt pattern as the early block as well as some extra ones tapped into it which line up with the holes on the XF bellhousing

Is this an early 221 with both bolt patterns???

thanks

Reckon it might be a US 200 from '68. My 221 has ARC8DE 6015 in smallish letters, about where the coil usually mounts.

The US origin would also explain it matching a 144 bolt pattern plus the larger one...
