Question about new head for 72 Comet

My head gasket was seeping a little, so I decided to upgrade to an E0 head, from my readings here. I will be using a felpro gasket. From what I have read here and in the sticky, there is .025 difference between the shim gasket and the felpro. OK, my engine is supposed to be 8.3:1 compression(being a 72). A comp test revealed 150 in 5 cylinders and 145 in 1 cylinder, A very even engine(53,000 miles). I would like to get this to around 8.75:1-9.25:1, or whatever I can get away with on 93 with a safety margin. How much extra should be milled to achieve this? Other plans are a 3 angle valve job and a port divider. Am I missing anything.
While the head is off would be the perfect time to swap cams also. I was looking at the comp cams 260. I have a C-4 and a 3.55 gear, and I would guess total weight with me at about 2700-2800 lbs? This cam has probably been around awhile. Is it outdated or does it work as good as anything else out there? Any other advice is appreciated. Peyton in SE Ohio

Howdy Peyton:

A cut of .075" should get you real close to 9:1, assuming typical dimensions on a '72 200 and a FelPro Composite head gasket. when you have the head off, check deck height and try the CR calculator on our website listed in my signature.

In addition to the three angle valve job a back-cut on the intake valves is an effective and cheap upgrade.

The Comp 260 is a good choice given your circumstances. You will be able to get a Comp cam through your local parts store. A equally good choice is the 264S or a 264 D3 from FSPP. The advantage of FSPP is that Mike can provide you with a double roller cam timing set too. If you're changing cams the double roller is worth the extra dough and effort. I'd also put new lifters on the new cam.

Don't be surprized if you lose a little cylinder pressure with the new cam. It will come back at higher rpms.

That's my two cents for what it's worth.

CZLN6,
Is it possible to input values to four decimals in the calculator?
Found the calculator this morning after creating an EXCEL spreadsheet lasy night using the formula in your book.
My mixed English and metrics measurements kept me busy for a few minutes. :-)
Thanks.
