I just my new one in the mail and inspect it. My question is the cam lobes are not polished like the one I got from Comp Cam that is in my convertible. Is that correct or do I need to polish them first?

New cams typically have a slightly stippled black finish to them, from what I've seen. The correct surface evolves during cam break in.

Have only seen a smooth finish on roller cams.

Slade, do not remove the dull coating on the lobes.

That coating is called parkerizing.

It provides a surface favorable to flat lifter breakin.

Make sure you use shell rotella 15W-40 diesel oil on a flat lifter camshaft.

This combined with GM EOS supplies the zinc additive that is not contained in SM oil.

Also make sure you get the proper valves springs for the clay smith grind.

Stock springs & the springs that came with the comp cam are extremely short of the proper tension to prevent valve float.

To get rid of the comp 260 is a very wise desistion. The 260 comp cam is an ancient design & is a very weak performer.

Glad to see you step up to a real camshaft. Bill
