Question on the Main Bearings

I'm not sure how to install the main bearings on my Ford 67 200cid block. The previous owner rebuilt the motor whacky, and rather not follow his steps. I've looked online, and some show that the bearings with groves all go on the block portion. Others show they all go on the main caps. Then some alternate.

I'm very new to this, as you can tell.

Figured it out... Pretty sure, I qualify as retarded now...

Grooved bearing half to block side. Oil enters from oil gallery into the mains from the hole in the block main saddle through the groove. If grooves are on the cap no oil enters main bearings. If some were assembled that way there would be an instant failure with spun bearings.

There is nothing retard about asking when you are not sure. We all had to ask when were started. The retard is the one that does not ask, charges on blindly and then wonder where that wall they just hit came from.

8) as thad indicated the grooved bearing goes in the block, however there are bearing sets that are fully grooved on the mains, but they are not as common as they used to be.

Grooved, or not grooved.....the bearing half with the hole in it goes into the block.

Also while we're on this subject.....ensure the cam bearings are installed right. The holes should like up with the main holes.
If you can stick a long piece of wire down thru the main oil passage into the cam bearing journal, your OK.

8) i will even go you one step further, check the alignment of the hole in the main bearing to make sure it fully matches up with the oil passages in the block. usually it is only a problem with the FE engines, but sometimes.........
