questions about my rebuild

Hi Guys
broke down the 200ci today to inspect it for a rebuild and have a few questions. The engine is for my 63 econoline pickup and is out of an 81 fairmont and will be used for daily service.
1 I plan to install a header on it so how important is the port divider, is it an essential part. i've read on this forum mixed veiws on using it.
2 the thermostat housing is in bad shape so are new ones available? looked on autozones webb site and its not listed.
3 going to replace the timing chain and wondered if any one makes a gear drive for the 200, i have one in my 350 chevy and love the sound
4 the motor has a points distributor fitted at the moment but i thought i would move up to electronic so is the petronix system using the stock dizzie or the ds11 the best system?

plan on visiting the states at the end of the month so i can collect all the parts while there.

Thanks

New thermo housing should be available at napa or local parts house if not npd has ya covered. I'm running headers with no port divider and Ive heard people who have had both and claim it doesnt do anything or its not worth the hassle. Not sure about the timing chain gear drive but Mike at classicinlines has a double rollar good insurance. The ds2 is far better than pertronix I bought everything new for about a hundred. If your motor is an 81 it should have the ds2 system not points. If you want the best performance the dui ignition from mike is the best adding about 13 ponies but your going to open up your wallet wider.

thanks for the info, yeah i thought it should have the ds11 fitted as standard, i guess being over here in the UK the ds11 maybe got changed at some point in the engines life, i just priced the ds11 components on autozones site and it comes to about $140 thats £70 sterling so not to expensive at all

I know that ClassicInlines used to carry a timing gear set, but don't know if he still has any. It wasn't a bolt-in change, though.

Mick, buy the Mr Gasket distributor spring kit, too. You can be reasonably confident the Duraspark will not be supplied in the best ignition curve for your application, so this is a preemptive step.

Cheers, Adam.

Hi Adam
some of this duraspark info i find a bit confusing! if my 200 should of had a ds11 from the factory is it not just a case of buying a replacement part from autozone? what does the spring kit do?
when i thought about rebuilding this motor i trawled through this forum for info and saved most of the ds11 threads and carb swap threads, just when i think i have it covered you throw me a curve ball about spring kits LOL
took the sump off just now and it looks in great shape checked out a big and small end cap and theres no wear whatsoever.

The reason he said to buy a rebuild/respring kit is that some rebuilders put in the wrong springs for our application. There is also a slot in one of the plates that controls mechanical advance and sometimes the plate that is in the reman distributor is less then ideal for our sixes. He mentioned buying the spring kit so that you would have several spring options and at the same time you could check the mechanical advance slot to verify what you are working with.

the mist seems to be clearing a little now. Are the spring kits easy to install? and are they widely available over there or special order from somewhere.
1 other thing i noticed whem looking at the pictures on autozone is that the coils have a push on fitting can you buy these new as i dont see them listed
