Quick help needed Identity Problem

A while back I asked for help identifying a engine I was looking to buy
Here is the thread

http://www.fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic. ... ht=#359299

Anyway the Markings read as follows:
Block C8DE 6015A

On intake

D00E 6090A or D0DE 6090A The third character was not well defined so I could not be certain if it was 0 or D

In response I got this information:
looks like you have a 1968 200 block with a 1970 head. everything will transfer over...

Here is the problem. My buddy tore it down to rering and add new bearings and valve seals , The bottom end was beautiful, Posted for bearing sizes, measured this out it is stock bearings,2.123 rod and 2.248 main, So I had him check bore to know if it was stock or oversize for getting rings.......
It is a 3.50 bore, Looks like the damn thing is a 170, not a 200!
I asked him how many mains, He replied 4 So it does not look like it is a 1968 200 Block does it? Ok I could not remember if it makes a difference or not so I asked about freeze plugs.....3 on the right side 2 in back.

Am I right is this only a 170??????
Was the person that deciphered the block markings Mistaken?
It does not make sense to me..........Common sense if i am correct, 4 mains 3.50 bore Pre 65 170?

Help me figure this out for certain please, I got to keep moving.

sorry 'bout that. it didn't occur to me that someone would count the back plugs. but freeze plugs are freeze plugs  I have remember so make sure to say it's 5 under the exhaust manifold. having said that $100.00 for a low mileage D0 head and a 170 block is still a good deal.

Yep. I have two 170 blocks. One is C1DE-6015A, the other is C3DE-6015E. I guess we'll have to file this knowledge for future reference...

BTW: The 1969 Falcon still had the 170 engine, and I think the block remained a 4-main block throughout its production.
