Hi am new here. I owner a 1967 Ford mustang 6 cyl it has been rebuilt and I have a weber 2 barrel carb on and I can barley hit 30 mph do u think I need to adjust the carb and timing or I need to downgrade to a 1 barrel carb any ideas.

Does it still have the stock distributor on it that it had with the one barrel carb?

Normally adding a two barrel carb should allow for more speed, not less.

Is this a Webber or Holley Webber 2bbl? Is the linkage allowing the throttle to open all the way? Are the secondaries opening?

Have you also checked for vacuum leaks?

I suspect you ahve more than one problem and they are working together so to speak to hold you back.

its has a new distributor and its a Webber 2bbl the throttle is open all the way. have not check to see if it has a vacuum leaks

What new distributor? Being a 67 it should not have been a Load O. Is it still a points model? Points with an electronic conversion? OR a duraspark? Or DUI? Dual or single vacuum advance? Where is the vacuum advance hooked? If its points has the dwell been checked with a dwell meter?

it has a single vacuum advance. Am not sure if the ponits have been check with a dwell meter

As others have pointed out, you need to determine the model of the distributor. If you read some of the Stickies at the top of this forum, you'll see that the Load-O-matic is not compatible with any other carb other than the carb that came on the car from the factory.

If you have a later model distributor and if you have a timing light, aim it at the timing mark as you rev the engine. Confirm that the timing is advancing and that the distributor advance mechanism is functioning.

The other thing that I would check would be the harmonic balancer. The outer ring of the balancer has a timing mark notch in it. It is not uncommon for the outer ring to slip due to the deteriation of the rubber and glue in the balancer. The mark will slip and when the timing mark lines up with the TDC scale on the block, the #1 cyl will not be at TDC. Therefore any efforts to time the engine using the indicator marks will be futile. To check for TDC, line up the balancer mark and pull the distributor cap. if the rotor is not pointing at or near the #1 terminal of the cap rotate the engine 360 deg to put the engine on the TDC #1 cyl of the compression stroke. Now pull the spark plug of #1 cyl. Get a screw driver and place it into the #1 hole. Have someone help turn the engine over by hand with a wrench on the crank shaft balancer bolt. As you rotate the engine back and forth stop rotating at the point when the piston is at its highest pioint in the cyl. Check to see if the timing mark is lined up at TDC. If it is not at TDC, you may need to purchase and new or rebuilt harmonic balancer. You could also mark the balancer with a new mark and re-time the engine. But realize that the next time you check timing it may slipped again. You could also use vacuum guages to time and set the carbs to maximum vacuum which should also be maximum timing.

Am going to check my distributor today been busy. Is it going to say Load-O-matic on distributor. When did they stop put this dum Load-O-matic distributor on ford engines

I think the '68's had a conventional distributor. I can't remember if there is anything thata easily identifies the Load-O distributor. If you have a timing light, disconnect the distributor vacuum line and plug it or hold your thumb over it. Rev the engine and using the timing light, you should seed the timing advance with increasing rpm's. If it does not, you either have a Load-O-Matic or a broken / stuck distributor. But a 1968 or later points distributor or one of the DSII distributors and replace the non-functioning distributor.

You would be OK. I'd rather get the DuraSpark dizzy and a GM ignition module. Should be about the same price at any parts store.

What do u think is best to do the guy I bought the engine from gave me a 1 barrel autolite carb should I just put on or buy a new distributor. Do advance auto parts carry distributor for 6 cyl all I say was for v8
