Quick Vacuum question on HW 5200

I'll try to explain this as best as I can:

On the H/W 5200, there are 2 tubes (next to each other) coming out of it that appear to be for vacuum. One comes straight out and has a flare on the end, and the other comes out and makes a 90* turn and does not have a flare. both are 3/16"

So, I had the hose going from the distributor to the straight one with a flare on it. Went to replace the hose, and the dang nipple broke off. So, I plugged it, and went through the other hose. That was the only thing that changed, and the car is acting quite different. Did I go to the wrong tube or something?

One is probably a timed port and the other a full vacuum port.

Just a simple Q...but timed you mean like ported...and full means manifold?

Yes. With a timed port...kinda an odd name for it...but it is usually used on some Dizzy's so there is little or no vacuum advancing the dizzy at idle until the throttle valves are tipped in past a certain point uncovering the port in the throttle bore allowing vacuum to advance the dizzy. With a full vacuum port there will be vacuum to the dizzy even at idle.

I see what you mean. So that would make a definite difference in starting and running, right?

Oh, forgot to ask. How can I fix that? It's a steel nipple coming out of it, and it's sheared. I guess I could try some kind of glue/epoxy? Might be too hot in the bay though. Or, if there's some way to replace it by sliding a new one in, you guys let me know. Thanks

Without an eyeball on it I am guessing you could carefully drill the broken piece out and press in a tube of appropriate size or tap it with threads and screw in a small hose barb. If you have an Ace Hardware near by look through their stock of brass fittings and see if you come with something that works.
As to which port to use, just use the one that works the all around best.

If you have an Ace Hardware near by look through their stock of brass fittings and see if you come with something that works.

Sounds good, I have one about 1/4 mile from my house, and I know the brass fittings section well...too well...

I'll give it a shot and see what I can come up with
