rain...

Can rain ruin a fuel pump? I think my old pump was sitting out in the rain last weekend, and I was planning to swap it back in, because it works better than my new one that I got at a parts house. The new one was a POS that now leaks gas into my oil. Thanks for the info.

Nevermind! It didn't get wet. What's a good way to test whether gas is going to get into my oil with this pump or not? I put some starting fluid in the hole with the arm, the part that bolts into the block, and looked to see if it would flow anywhere else, and it didn't, and then I put it in the in-tube, and it didn't flow out of the hole with the arm. Everything looked good, and everything's nice and clean.

if gas is getting into the oil from the fuel pump, the diaphram is defective, I'd take the new pump back, depending on what the warranty is. I'm not shure if your pump is rebuildable or not, but you may be able to tear it apart and replace the diaphram

ughh I have had nothing but trouble finding a good fuel pump, I have gotten two defective ones and now have a good one that I pulled off another engine i had lying around. If there is somewhere that sells a decent replacement let me know

nobody that rebuilds them cares, I'v pulled a couple parts store rebuilds apart only to find the diaphrams not installed correctly ( and of course damaged from it also ).

a possibility would be to get the carter SBC street pump and swap over the pump rod from a 6cyl, and get a good pump with a good warranty, not to mention, Napa would probably be able to get a rebuild kit for it, if it ever needed it.
