rear oil seal install

Having some problems with installing a rear seal for the oil pan.
The little tabs fit into the slots in the block, but the seal won't seat, like it's too long and keeps popping out. :x :arg:

I hope you are doing this on the stand instead of standing on you head under the car. I have had good luck using RTV to glue pan gaskets to the block and main cap. then after it is dry smear a fresh thin layer of rtv over the gaskets/seals and install the pan.

If you are under the car reverse my idea. glue the gaskets good to the pan, smear it again thinly and install.
By glueing them down they are much less likely to squeeze out when you tighten the bolts down.

I allways let it dry a full day and I use the good stuff,....like Pematex ultra black, ultra blue, or ultra grey RTVs
I do valve covers the same way except I glue to the cover

I'm using Permatex copper.
The gaskets themselves shouldn't be a problem, it's just the rear seal that looks odd.
I've never done one before so I'm a fish out of water here.
Should it be fully seated all the way around?

Yah fortunately the engine's on a stand.

Yeah they can be slippery! :bang:

Should it be fully seated all the way around?

It should and it will seat all the way around when the pan is bolted down.

With the engine on a stand it's much nicer! For the rubber end seals I only use a dab of silicon in the corners of the block too much and it makes the gasket side out. I use permatex non-hardening type or similar to glue the pan side gaskets to the block. I use a body hammer or small ball peen backed up with a body dolly to straighten the pan rails, don’t over tighten the pan bolts
