Rebuilding my 64 170

Hi all,

Since the car will be going to the paint shop in 2 months my workshed will have room to rebuild the engine.

Its the original 170 from my 64 falcon. Therefore I don't want to swap it for an other (and there are not many sixes for sale in Holland)

The engine has run approx 40K miles, but has seized up (not used for 30 years)

My idea:
I'll start with flushing the cooling system with a decalcification (is that correct english???? ) agent and Ill dump some WD40 on the pistons, to try and free them up. After the pistons are free, Ill start dismanteling the engine according to the shop manual.

From there Ill have to decide if any specialist work has to be done.

After all that, reassemble according to the shop manual.

I want to keep the engine as stock as possible, I'm thinking on swapping the generator for an alternator, because I want to add a stereo.

Is this a good starting point?? :?:
Are there things I'll have to look out for?
In general: TIPS?? HINTS!!!!

I'm an archeologist, not an mechanic :help: :D

Thanks for any input.

here is one very VERY important detail i was in to much of a hurry to remember get a cup cake tray or somthing like it and label each section and put the bolts from each section in the marked spot i made the mistake of just setting them down where i was working and was looking around for atleast an hour to find all of them

Howdy Rinke:

Once you get the stuck pistons out have your machinist inspect the bores to make sure that they can be cleaned up by boring and honing. There is no sense in spending time and money on a block that is too far gone.

Also, know your limits and get knowledgeable help when you need it.

But most of all, enjoy the journey.

Adios, David
