Recommended distributor for my setup?

Hi,

The Mustang has been off the road for several years and I'd like to get it running again. What distributor would you recommend for a Holley/Weber 5200 2bbl carburetor on a 1968 200ci I6? Other mods are a port divider and dual exhaust with dual outlet FSP header, and Pertronix electronic ignition.

Thanks,

Justin

how much are you willing to spend? and what are your goals?

the DUI is the new hot thing, and i believe that eventually everyone will be going to that, just as everyone once moved from Petronix to the DSII system

I suppose I am willing to spend that much if I can install a distributor that will work with my engine and carburetor. Can you buy the DUI setup for most engines? If I built another inline six in the future (maybe a 1970's engine-don't they have larger combustion chambers?) would it be easy to get a DUI setup for it? My current setup is plagued with problems. I could not work out the vacuum issues so the engine would bog down when I tried to accelerate. I think the current distributor is original to the engine.

There is a DUI built for both applications, the 144/170 one and the 200/250 one. The same distributor fits any year 200 or 250.

They are also made for the 300 and various V8s.

I got a chance to look at their website and now I am drooling. I like how everything is built into one unit. I never liked the look of the orange/red MSD ignition box mounted onto the side of the engine compartment. Is there much noticeable difference between the Duraspark and the DUI units?

I just read another post about DUI and saw that Mike offers them. I will definitely buy from him. I do not check the Classic Inlines website too much because I know I'll start buying things. I need to be careful because I'm on a college student's budget.

-Do I get a good student discount? I received a 4.0 GPA this semester! :D

I recommend the Duraspark II myself. If you pull the parts from the junkyard the cost is very little and the install is just about as simple as the DUI.

There have been several people on here who have installed DS II on their 144/170 engines with some modification.

No, you don't. We wait until you finish and become a successful businessman so you can pay back the debts from throwing out too much money for overkill speed parts.

p.s. congrats on the straight A's. Now order the DUI!!!

I think I would prefer the DUI because it combines everything into one unit. My problem is that the car is at a point where it should be taken apart and restored. It could use an entire suspension upgrade, a disc-brake upgrade, and many new components in the engine compartment. I don't have the money to do that right now so I'm trying to decide what really needs to be done.

First thing, make it run safely. Brakes are #1, followed by replacing rubber fuel lines. Then necessary suspension like shocks and critical bushings. Then engine work, followed by anything else. I'd probably add seat belts if it doesn't have them, as well.

That's my outlook, anyhow. If you are planning on driving it in between working on it.
