resistance wire ???

Got a friend with a 62-63 ranchero (not sure exactly which but it is round body style).
Engine keeps dying when warmed up. He's had the coil checked and if I remember right he is running a pertronix unit.
He has a new ignition we need to put in, but a neighbor of his said it is his resistance wire that is bad.
Not familiar with this on an old Ford.
Anyone know if this is true and where it's located, so I can help him out?
Thanx in advance.

Save everybody a load of time and do a SEARCH for "pink wire" or 'resistor wire". You will find more than you need to know. Short form: Ptx I and II with a Blaster coil DO NOT need the pink resistor wire. If you use the stock 6v coil, you will need the pink resistor wire. For best fire, get the Ptx unit AND the 12 v Ignitor/Blaster 10,000 coil.

Check this info. The diagram shows the stock setup:

This is how I did it:

The ignition voltage for the stock coil will drop down to 6 volts. I believe you need a constant 12 volts. Ludwig is right; do the search. Run a new wire to the ignition by-passing the "pink wire" or run a new wire to a switch from a constant 12 volts. If you need any further explanation just ask. :)

Thanx for the links, it's exactly what we were looking for.
He says he is running the old style coil so this should help.
I was heading to work when he called me and barely had time to post a question.
Normally I would do a search first ( which is why I logged on this morning).
Thanx for the speedy reply.
Poor guy has been going crazy trying to figure it out.
