Is it good for a 200 and a c4 tranny? will it make any xtra hp?

Yes & No. 10w40 for the engine. They don't make ATF for the C4.

will it make any xtra hp?

In my opinion, Yes.

Is it worth $7.50 a Quart

My dad swears by Royal Purple. I ususally use Castrol Syntec because I can run down to Autozone to get it. No one around here stocks Royal Purple that I have seen.

Kenny Brown Performance here used to but they closed that location.

Synthetic engine oil usually adds a few hp due to reduced friction and IIRC Dexron II is a synthetic lube.

Well a recent issue (like a month ago) of ford and mustang magazine did a test where they took a high performance v8 and used regular oil then synthetic oil dynoing each result. The results were done within one hour of each other on the same engine, just with different oils. The regular scored great, but the synthetic noted a gain of 20lbs of torque, and hp had a gain of about 2 if i remember correctly. I dont know about 7.50 a quart though, thats quite a bit.

I have been running various brands of Type FA because not many people are stocking anything but Dextron around here. The way I understand it FA is just an 'updated' version of type F. I had to dump in 7 quarts to get my car to move when I bought it. After 500 or so miles all the strange shifting problems mine had seemed to clear up. IIRC there were a few empty bottles of FA in the trunk when I bought the car so the previous owner had also been using it. One of these days I need to drop the pan and see why he put it on with a claking gun, there is so much 'sealer' on and around the pan I cant see more than 2 or 3 of the pan bolts....and it still leaks!

:D Here is something that I have heard from a number of transmission rebuilders.Weather it is true or not I don`t know.If it is,it would be a big help to those of us who have the older(read pre Dextron fluid)trannys.
When you do a total rebuild with a proper cleaning of ALL components, you can use Mercon/Dextron in ANY automatic transmission.
Please feel free to correct me if I have posted incorrect info.
Thanks.

OK, I will.

Some front wheel drive vehicles running a final drive in the autobox lube, can't use Dexron. The Renault 16 was one such car.

OK, I'll try it, if you'll warrantee it... :P
Kidding aside, I posed this question on bobistheoilguy.com and got a couple responses:
Here is an Amsoil synthetic that is type"F" compatible.

Haven't tried it.
JPT transmissions in Michigan recommends 0-20 Mobil-1. They are the gurus for C-4's. Specialty Formulations will make up a mix for your specific needs. I personally use OTC Type-F but change it out completely (67 Mustang, so I have the converter drain plugs) which simplifies the routine. My change interval is once a year--approx. 5000 mi. Best regards. John. Las Vegas.
and this:
Even though you don't need a full synthetic, here are some:
Redline Racing ATF
Amsoil Supershift
SpecialtyFormulations SFRglide
His drain interval seems kind of short. Shouldn't ATF be good for at least 20-30K miles?

Oriley's here in town stocks the oil.. but has to order the tran fluid.

For the C4 I use Redline since Royal Purple doesn't make a Type FA.

Is Royal Purple worth the money. To me it is since I actually only change my oil once a year. With syn. oil it doesn't sludge up when not used.

Also, I get it for $5.40 a quart at my local speedshop.

Knowing alot of long time Ford mechanics I would never use anything but the correct ATF.

I have a old Hot Rod Magazine where they did a test and recorded about 20ft lbs of torque and 8hp increase. The difference IMHO can be attributed to different brands of Dynos sometimes giving different results.

On most forums I have read anyone dynoing motors recommend getting all tests done on same brand and if possible dyno and a competent dyno operator.

If you look at what engine mods will give 2-8hp and 20ft lbs of torque increase then $40 for a oil change doesnt sound so bad.
