rtv needed on carb mount to intake?

First timer question. When I took the carb off the intake, there was no goo at all on the gasket in between. thinking of all the posts I've read about vacuum leaks, does there need to be rtv on this gasket, or leave the gasket dry? What torque should be on the carb mount bolts? Would rtv on the carb mount gasket present a risk or performance issue of some sort?

Thanks.

8) do not use any sealant on the carb mounting gasket as it will cause more problems than it solves. all you need do is tighten the bolts down snuggly and you are done. dont go too tight though as you can break the carb mounting flange.

I know people who do dry base gaskets. Personally, I put a thin layer of blue RTV on. It doesn't hurt anything and generally guarantees no leaks from the base.

The only time I don't rtv the base is when I'm doing carb adjustments and I don't want to wreck 3-4 gaskets just to get the car jetted and adjusted correctly.

fuel will disolve the RTV, so my advice is to NEVER use it on any part of your intake, including carb base.
if some surface damage requires you to use a sealant, an aviation-type gasket sealer will be suitable

blue hylomarâ„¢ has always worked well for me.

It dries to a permanently elastic film and is gas resistant. As in most cases, use sparingly! Less is more. A true flat surface won't need much sealer, if at all.

is blue hylomar available at the auto stores?
Another first timer question. The carb is off, fuel has been running out of the bowl as I roll the carb around, looking at the bottom, etc. When the carb is mounted back on the intake, will the fuel pump refill the bowl, do I need to pour gas in there? Sorry fellows, this is all new to me.

Who makes it? Does anyone in the States carry it?

thats normal. if it doesn't want to start right up, pour just a tiny bit (maybe 2ml) of gas down the carb throat to prime it, and it'll be good as ever.

Hylomar Universal Blue is a polyurethane-based sealer developed in the early 1960's by Rolls-Royce Plc. for use in aviation jet engines.

In the States, it is made by Hylomar USA Inc. and is sold through HarborFreight (stores in NE: Lincoln, Omaha) and SilverSeal retailers in Denver, CO (Commercial Automotive Warehouse) and in Kansas City, MO (Engine Parts Factory Warehouse).

It's not a cure-all, although I have used it successfully when I rebuilt the pump in my household washing machine.
