Talk about right place at the right time. I detoured into my local parts store for some Lucas tranny helper stuff, when I guy piped up "Hey, is that yer falcon out there?". "That's got a V8 in it huh?" (
hehe fooled again by the Flowmasters
). "No" I replied, it's a hopped up 6."
"Want another one?" he asked.
Well, long story short, I'll be picking up a '68 Mustang 200 complete except for alternator and starter with 35K original miles on it. Of course I don't need it, but my good buddy who is rebuilding a '63 Falcon for someone does. The car has a 170 and the owner desperately wants a 200 in it.
My real score is the tranny. I of course said that I didn't really need another 6 as mine was fresh..."however (crossed my fingers), it doesn't happen to have a C4 attached to it does it?" "Why yes, it does actually."
JACKPOT!
tranny, torque converter, flexplate, bell, etc = $50
and the best part...it's like 10 minutes up the road! I almost drove hours each way last week to pick one up I was going to bid on.
OK, so there are questions at the end of this bragging...
1. should I replace the flexplate evem if the original looks ok. I've heard they are prone to issues. Are the visible or underlying issues you can't see?
2. with my Ford-O, the teeth are on the torque converter (right?). Is the C4 the same way?
3. speaking of torque converter, with my setup (see signature), what kind of stall rating should I look for? The one he has I stock and I don't think that's going to cut it. Can they be rebuilt/altered or do you just buy a different one?
4. starter. Is the starter position going to be an issue with my Pacemaker headers (or anythine else) or is the starter position the same or similar?
Thanks again all!
