How duz ATF get from there into the combustion chamber(s)?

When the vacuum modulator goes bad, it is normally an internal seal. Once the seal is broken the vacuum from the engine can suck transmission fluid through the modulator and up the hard line and into the intake manifold.

Changed the oil, and kept a close eye on the oil level, the coolant, and the transmission fluid. I'm not loosing anything, and the smoking has stopped. I literally drove 100 miles total this weekend and it didn't smoke once. Water in the gas maybe? No idea what that was all about. Thanks for the insight on this and thanks for helping me out. It didn't diesel all weekend either.

What he said . And it doesn't take a lot of ATF to make a lot of smoke .
 
If an oil change stops smoke burning, it could be that the fresh oil has higher viscosity- either by spec or because oil viscosity breaks down over time.
