is it better to buy an engine for say $300 with low milage and have it installed or have the bottom end rebuilt?

opnions?

A v8 is a "drop-in" but it still requires time, talent, tools, and money. The easiest thing to do is to replace the engine with a used or rebuilt unit.

I say find a 200 in a junkyard that isn't trashed. give it a quick ball hone job and some fresh rings and bearings and call it good.

i was looking at the 200 from the 78 granada that is for sale on the board here....$300 plus shipping

then I can sell the auto trans...IF its my engine

Install the replacement engine, then you can rebuild and upgrade your current engine at your leisure and swap them back someday.

Someday, when my income is more than a trickle, I will buy a 200ci to build up and replace the current engine (which is not original). Same basic idea as stated above, keep the car running while you build up another engine.

Here is my question:

Is the current engine original to the car?

yes, original engine

I am still tinkering with the idea of buying that 200 thats for sale here...from a 78 granada...wiuth only 25,000 mile son it. That woul dbe GREAT to swap and then build up this engine

gotta get it runnign first
