Alright, alright. I'll post mine, but be warned. When I recorded this last fall, it was right before I put the car away for the winter and it was at the height of my carb tuning problems. So, beside the enormous lope of the cam, the carb was surging to the point where I could barely keep it running.

I warned you

take 1 stock inline six, 200 cid, one 78 exhaust manifold, stock single pipe leading to a $20 cherry bomb with a turndown in front of the rear axle.

sounds ultra tough at idle.

just the revs in neutral create a slight drone, but I think its worse on the recording than it is in reality.

Anyhow, nice rumble- I like it! :wink:

80stang, what kind of exhaust setup were you running in that sound clip? Sounds good.

FSPP single out ->
2,5" pipe ->
Dynomax Super turbo muffler 2,5" near rear axle ->
2,25" tail pipe

Wow...these cars sound great...bringing back a lot of memories as I haven't heard my car in a year or so (since my last leave). Wish I would have thought to record it then.

wallaka, in your signature. What do you mean by "split manifold"? Curious.

We need some of the turbo guys to post theirs! Really wish I coulda got a clip of mine before I switched things up...oh well

but i don't want to sound ricy

not gonna happen.

you have far too many cubes in that engine. I was told by many fordsixers that they believe their exhaust note sounded "ricey", but to me, they didn´t.
lots of recordings of glasspack´d 200s I heard reminded me of 60s era British roadsters rather than a modded ricer.

then again, for me rice is defined by a mid-90s civic with a tailpipe so big it could be easily used for atomic power plant heat exchangers!

are you sure? cause the 144 in my 61 doesn't exactly sound very "throaty" after i cut the muffler off (maybe its the 1 1/2" exaust pipe). and its only 4 inches bigger than the 4 banger in my ranger...

I was referreing to the 200... the 144 indeed is a small engine, displacing around 24 cui per cylinder, while the 200 packs more than 33 cui in each and every hole.

Well my uncle does some metal fabricating (or "jerry rigging") and i wanted something unique. He was around during the 60's when all this was new, so he took 3 manifolds and "spliced" them together so there are 2 exits...kinda like headers except the last 4 cyls dump mostly into one and the 1st two dump into the other. One pipe sounds like a lawnmower and the other like a log truck but they sound really good together. He said that's how they all did it back then. Took a little milling to make it seal right but it was worth it. Not sure of the performance boost but it sounds good, and that's what I was worried about at the time. I worked at a muffler shop back then so the exhaust wasnt a problem. Burned my starter up though from my house to the shop.
