Is it as simple as it sounds...

Start up engine and while you have the butterflies open, lightly spray water while givin' it gas if it starts to die...and for how long?

hehe...my auto teaher in high siad he knew guy who used to clean out the carbon form the cylinders with rice...yeah rice, he would hold it open while running and put rice down the carb. I guess it worked well and didnt harm the engine...but i definately would not recommend doing it...i wouldnt do it to mine. I also heard of using BBs in big diesels aswell..but i dont think thats true,,thats a little harsh...

But i heard that tranny fluid works well for cleaning the carbon out...if you run it and open the acarb up and puor it in there a little at a time..i heard it clans it up. th only prob would be clogging up the catalytic converter with all that oil.

Water sounds like the safest way...if it works good id try it out....but most cars dont usually need to be cleaned out like that nless its been running rich for years and years.

Ya, the water trick works.
Find a spray bottle that atonizes very well and spray the very fine mist into the carb just as you would carb cleaner.

It used to be standard proceedure to do this with the big block cars that the old folks would slowly drive around town with. They would build a lot of carbon in those engines and bring it in for service when they thought the engine needed a tune up.

You rarly see it any more.

I've never done it, but it's a widely enough repoted technique that it must work  Anyway, if you're actually shaking carbon off of the valves and chamber, you're going to have very black, sooty exhaust smoke. When the smoke turns white, the carbon is gone

I've used a hose and a fine spray, playing the throttle and spray to keep the RPMs up and not let the engine die. Make sure you don't spray too much, because you can cause a hydraulic lock, and bust a piston or two.
The bad news is, the water will do diddly for the carbon on your valves. It only works to decoke the combustion chambers. ;)

that is why i like to use chem-tool for cleaning carbon. well that and it is very hard to hydraulic the motor with chem-tool.

What if you used rice and water? The best way of doing the water thing I heard was to use the washer bottle pump redirected, under heavy acceleration.

Is Chem-Tool carbon tetrachloride?

Regards, Adam.

Addo, next thing you'll throw in some shrimp, and top off with soy sauce.
Doesn't MustangGeezer use water injection to reduce pinging?:

Mental picture...a man standing over his engine throwing chinese ingredients into his motor!...hehehe....cracks me up!..hehe

I thought this was a ford forum not a ricer one?

the water will clena the exhaust valves as the steam is formed then. some people use a vac line into a bottle of water with a little needle valve to control flow.

That works great!! I've used it on some of my other vehicles.

And yes, I am running water injection so I dont have to use this technique.....No rice was used in this post either ;)

Doug

Man..did i set something off with the whole rice in the engine thing?....hehe
Gives good joking humor though..

The carbon build-up in the combustion chamber is baked on, and not at all water soluable. So how is it that simply squirting water from a squeegee bottle down the intake is going to magically clean my engine?

Someone is going to have to explain to me the physical and chemical processes at work; I simply don't believe it.

it may not be water soluble when the water is at room temp, but when the water turns to steam it cleans the carbon quite nicely.

Someone shoud try it and then take thier head off right after they do it ans see what happens. Since no one has yet to acually describe how well it does clean. :D

I did.

Look and Laugh!!!!
